Melon Baller is 2.5D, side scroller video game. The objective of the game is simple; you play as a watermelon that fell off of a fruit truck, and must navigate through the wilderness to get back to the supermarket. Melon Baller was released on PC and XBOX One through the Steam Store, and XBOX Marketplace.
For this game, I acted as the Art Director of the game design team, finalizing the overall aesthetic of the game, overseeing the development, and designing a majority of the UI in game software Unity. The client was dead-set on this project being a 2D side scroller thus lead to the decision to point this in the direction of a 2.5D, low-poly style. The client’s budget did not align with strict 2D animation, so we animated this using 3D models in Cinema 4d, and locking the camera to a side scroll. That way the client succeeded in this game being a “side scroller” game, and didn’t have to go over budget with hiring costly 2D animators.
